The brief

A large established garden in Wahroonga had drifted for several years between short-lived garden services. The hedges had gone woody, the lawns were patchy under mature liquidambars, and the beds had lost their edges. The owners wanted the garden returned to the standard it was designed for, then held there.

What we did

• Staged renovation pruning of the box and photinia hedges over two seasons, so they thickened back instead of being cut to sticks
• Lawn repair: aeration, autumn feeding, overseeding of worn areas and a mowing height matched to the shade
• Beds re-edged, hand weeded and mulched, with gaps replanted to suit each position
• A weekly maintenance plan with a seasonal calendar covering feeding, pruning windows and leaf management

The outcome

Within two seasons the hedges had closed back into solid green walls, the lawn held colour through winter, and the garden now runs on a predictable weekly rhythm with the same team each visit. The owners no longer think about the garden between visits, which was the real brief all along.
